Hi! My name is Marshall Kirkpatrick. Thanks for stopping by my site.
These days, I’m working as a consultant to organizations doing green tech and sustainability work. Specifically, I provide evaluation, systems building (for analyst relations, competitive & market intelligence), and launch strategy services for green tech, renewables, and sustainability companies.
Who am I?
I live in Oregon, but I work globally. I started my career as a technology journalist. I specialized in using systems to write stories both faster and smarter than my competition. My news and analysis has been quoted by organizations including the Wall St. Journal (12X), BBC (3X), NPR (3X), PBS (3X), New York Times (2X), ABC, CBS, MSNBC, the United Nations and the American Medical Association. As a journalist, I was the first writer hired at TechCrunch and then co-Editor of NYT-syndicated ReadWriteWeb.
I’ve been a part of winning teams at every stage of the startup journey.
I went on to be a Mark Cuban-backed founder with an exit (Little Bird), a market intelligence exec through an IPO (Sprinklr), a VP at VC Headline.com, and more. I consulted with Siri before the Apple acquisition; Sun Microsystems so appreciated my help they invited me to spend time with Neil Young when he played their conference.
Why green tech and sustainability?
In 2021, I co-founded a 3 year long climate news project called Sunflower News that partnered with Exponential View, Climatebase, and Cultural Survival. In 2022, I wrote the climate news section for Exponential View.
In 2024, I am focused on consulting in the climate and sustainability sector because I believe the Earth is of foundational importance to all life and has awe-inspiring intrinsic value of its own.
My current working Theory of Change is that decarbonization is going to need to happen so fast that we’re going to need to harness the profit motive to get it done. But long term, there’s some deep change that needs to happen in the ways most humans relate to the rest of the earth. That’s going to take longer, so I’m taking a two speed strategy.
Why work with me?
